Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
Wanted: One Fake Boyfriend
Boyfriend Material was our introduction to Alexis Hall's writing; and the way he writes is so captivating and endearing that it inspired us both to read the rest of his published books--and look forward to all his future works. The sequel to Boyfriend Material, Husband Material, will be published in August of 2022, and we can't wait to see what happens next with Luc and Oliver.
Boyfriend Material, by Alexis Hall (2020), is a hilarious, tender, fake-dating trope, queer romcom novel--and it is absolute perfection. As usual, Alexis Hall makes his characters incredibly engaging and relatable. Luc O'Donnell is sweet, witty, grumpy, and incredibly self conscious--oh, and he can't help but feel like he's fallen into his has-been celeb father's shadow as he makes his "comeback" on a reality tv show.
Oliver Blackwood is romantic, thoughtful, meticulous, sophisticated, and anxious. His life as a criminal barrister is ordered and busy, and still doesn't feel good enough for his parents. Both men self-proclaimedly suck at relationships--but through the ups and downs of their individual lives and their fake relationship, Luc and Oliver find something they never thought they'd find in each other. And it will leave you feeling all the feels.
Boyfriend Material flows incredibly well, and it is an irresistible page-turner. It is full of laugh-out-loud moments, witty banter, a sprinkle of heartache, and an incredible tenderness that'll have you rooting for Luc and Oliver until the end.
Boyfriend Material is such a feel-good story, it's easy to want to reread it over and over again. We both whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who loves brilliant dialogue, lovable idiot characters, awesome moms, puns, romance, comedy, fake-dating, witty banter, and French toast. New comfort book? Absolutely!
Boyfriend Material is also available on Audible and is read by Joe Jamison. If you haven't heard an audiobook read by Joe Jamison, you're missing out--he captures every character's voice and personality perfectly and it's wonderfully enjoyable to listen to.
