Trial by Sand: the first book in the Trial Series and my first published cover!

     

    Hello, hello, hello!

    This blog post is exciting twice over because 1. my best friend wrote an entire fricking book! and 2. I got to design the cover!

    "Trial by Sand" is the first book in the Trial Series, written by my very best friend of 11+ years, Aiyana Abernathy. This is her debut novel, and it is so fricking exciting to watch her publish her first book! As she decided to go the self-publishing route, we talked about her cover design and bounced ideas back and forth for awhile, and I am absolutely honored that she ultimately asked me to design the cover of her first book.

"Trial by Sand" is the first book in the Trial Series by new YA fantasy author, Aiyana Abernathy; it sets up the rest of what’s to come in this series by introducing the magical world of Avilaar and the incredible characters that live in it. In this present Third Age of Avilaar, magic has been drawn back into the earth, and only those capable of drawing from its source can use it. A dark force threatens the relative peace that holds Avilaar together with the hopes of releasing a deadly power from the Ancient City. 
The main cast of characters: Bodin, Rhen, Cos, Najirah, with the help of skilled inventors Mouse and Pim, must travel carefully through the land and do whatever it takes to save Master Dara and keep the power within the walls of the Ancient City contained. 
"Trial by Sand" may only be the first book in the series, but it’s full of adventure and keeps you on the edge of your seat, hoping for the safety of these incredibly lovable characters. 
I absolutely loved the main crew, and I was especially fond of Bodin and Cos. Bodin is the leader of the main crew, and Cos is the youngest of the bunch. They balance out the dynamic of the group perfectly and I can’t wait to see more of them in the coming books. 
There’s magic, battles, tests, necromancy, friendship, budding romance, and hyenas (one named Petunia!!!!!!!!) that pull sleds through the desert… and I can’t wait to see what other fantastic creatures and adventures await in the rest of the Trial Series.
